FAQ
Why not just text the parents and use Find My?
Plenty of teams do, and for a single carpool it works fine. It stops working at roster scale for two reasons. Find My tells you where one adult is; it can’t tell you whether every kid has a seat on Saturday — that’s the question a coach actually has. And it works parent-by-parent: each family shares with the coach personally, which leaves the coach holding a location link to somebody’s phone that a human has to remember to switch off. CleatShare works the other way round. Nothing is shared until a coach opens a window for one event; you accept or decline, and decline is the same size as accept; it ends by itself at a time you can read before you agree. Afterwards there is no screen in CleatShare that shows where anyone was — not for your coach, not for anyone.
Why not just use the group text?
The thread is fine for talking and bad at state. Who offered seats, how many are left, who still has no ride — all of it is somewhere above, out of order, and out of date the moment someone replies. A board holds one answer that everybody sees, and the coach gets a number at the top instead of scrolling. Keep the group text; this sits next to it.
Do parents need to download an app?
No. Tap the invite link, sign in with email, and you’re in. It works in Safari and Chrome. You can add it to your home screen for an icon.
Is CleatShare a replacement for TeamSnap or similar?
No. We only do rides. Keep whatever you use for the schedule and chat; CleatShare is the carpool board next to it.
What happens if a car fills up?
You go on that car’s waitlist and move up automatically if a seat frees. Your kid also stays visible as “needs a ride” so other drivers can take them.
What if a driver cancels?
Their riders go straight back to “Needs a ride” so everyone sees who still needs a seat.
Can the coach see my phone number?
Only if you add one to your profile. It’s optional.
Does CleatShare track my location?
Only if your coach opens a Live Window and you accept — and only until that window ends. Never in the background. See Security & safety.
Can my kid’s phone share location?
Only if you, the parent, explicitly allow it for that specific event. The consent is logged and you can revoke it anytime. Coaches can turn this off for the whole team.
How much does it cost?
Parents: free. Teams: early pricing is $9/month or $49/season, and every team is free during early access.
